With the Suitcase Through the Christmas Season!
I got my suitcases ready to go in the middle of October in Germany. M.I. Hummel promotions were scheduled in America! It was a very gray autumn Tuesday when I left; stormy weather caused hard rain and the leaves to fly through the air.
Christmas was still far away and so I had other thoughts in my mind at that moment. I carried some gingerbread in my handbag to make sure I had something to eat on my long trip - at least to the airport of Frankfurt (three hours drive from home). Gingerbread was available since the end of August in our stores in Germany; but gingerbread was the only part of a German Christmas that I saw before leaving.
I plunged right into the beginning of the Christmas season in the United States. I do like this time of year for Hummel Promotions best, because every visit in a store has a special atmosphere.
Everyone discovers this atmosphere with his or her own feelings, but I first sniffed everywhere the fragrance of the season. Candies, cookies, perfumes, candles, spices, and, and, too many other wonderful scents to list!!! Fabulous! ...and everywhere the wonderful decorations. Here was the tiny-tiny Christmas tree, and there the gigantic one. Windows filled with gift packages wrapped in sparkling and inspiring paper. Special offers on sale. And every store filled with Christmas music. Ornaments and wreaths, flowers and lights! And of course, people, people, people outside or inside of stores to enjoy and to buy whatever they wanted to put under the Christmas tree at home. What a wonderful time! Our Hummel figurines are an especially wonderful gift from Santa Claus.
During my promotions I met and talked to a lot of nice Hummel collectors, Hummel lovers and just store visitors who decided upon our figurines as gifts. Signed and dated or with a personal message that customers already designed. Figurines like Making New Friends, St. Nicholas' Day, Christmas Delivery, Wonder of Christmas, Winter Adventure, Frosty Friends, Skating Lesson, and all kinds of angels were displayed. M.I. Hummel figurines are each a touch of the Season!
During approximately 25 appointments in 12 states I experienced the American Christmas, and I enjoyed it very much. Christmas in Germany is not very different. It is just a little bit bigger! ...and also on Christmas day we have our "Christkindl" who delivers all the gifts mysteriously. Here in the U.S. we have Santa Claus who comes through the chimney into the houses.
By the way, Germany also has a St. Nicholas, but he comes much earlier. He comes on December 6th; and that was exactly the date in 2004 on which I finished my tour. I thank all of you for making my tour a great success, and giving me so many wonderful memories!
Back to work at Pennington, NJ (Headquarters of Goebel, NA). The last couple of days before Christmas I saw how people decorate their houses for Christmas. I noticed the beautiful lights inside of houses or great lights placed outside. Here where I live a tree was standing with one light for each citizen in town. The night became day if these thousands of lights were on!
I enjoyed Christmas shopping very much in the huge malls, but it made me very tired. On the way home, I listened always to radio channels with Seasonal music. One of my favorite singers is Elvis with his Blue Christmas - a very sentimental song!
Well...now Christmas is over again. We are between the Holidays and back to work. I had a wonderful Christmas here in the states and I hope everybody else did, too. I wish all of our visitors on this Internet page a Happy New Year, packed with health, luck, and all the Best for the future!
